Tired of Green Yet?

What’s your favorite color? Think about how many articles of clothing you have that happens to be that color. You may have quite a few. But if you wore that same color and nothing else day after day after day… AND let’s suppose that every wall, every stick of trim and every accessory in your home is the same color. Let’s take it a step further. What’s your favorite food? That single food item will be breakfast, lunch, supper, snacks and dessert. If for some crazy moment in twilight zone history that should ever happen, I have the distinct feeling it wouldn’t take too long before you got sick of it. The sad news is that this is the way a lot of people feel about the green movement. I can’t say that I blame them, either.
I’ve written over 100 Thinking Green segments for our television show and, frankly, I’m tired of it. Don’t misunderstand, though. I’m not endorsing an abandonment of the green ideal. I’m just weary of the politics of green. Unfortunately, so much of the green doctrine you hear comes from people or organizations who don’t practice what they preach. Of course, that always does seem to be the case whenever something good comes along. The “cause” gets inundated with unethical types trying to ride the wave. And, let’s be honest, when a topic is crammed down our throats all the time, it loses its appeal. But don’t let the annoying push to jump on the bandwagon or the unsavory con artists turn you away from what’s right. At the core of green is the fact that we all have to do what we can to preserve this world we live in for future generations. So, forget about bandwagons and movements, and call it any color you want. Living eco-friendly is simply the right thing to do.
